Construction & Main Task

Production Company Name/Logo:

The Production name of our production is called SJDR Productions. We chose this name as we felt it would be catchy and also something that the audience would rememeber in the future. Each letter stands for the first initial of the members in our groups name. The 'S' stands for Shannon, the 'J' stands for Jamal, the 'D' stands for Darren and the 'R' stands for Rianna.
SJDR Productions

We designed and created this logo ourselves from scratch. We used a film image and then inserted typography and Letters on a top layer. We then changed the colour to blue as we felt this is a colour which stands out to people. We feel that the caption and  look is very catchy and something that people would remember. We also added 3 little cameras to emphasize the fact of filming and production company.

Inital Planning Ideas:

When working with my whole group, we done some planning  as well as some team research out side of the group on our own. During group conversations and the input of ideas, we included research which we thought would be relevant for our film. this reach included the conventions of the thriller genre and finding out whether our film meets some or most of these conventions. we also had a beginning, middle and end plot structure regarding the activities that we would have liked to take during the creation of our film.

We also looked at problems which might occur when filming in public places. The reason for doing this was so that we could be aware of the problems that may arise whilst in the middle of filming. We discussed and exchanged all of the ideas as a group and then constructed them separately.
The problems that may arise:
- Local houses: could disturb the neighbors who live close by.
- Member of the public: they could ruin your film by walking through a shot or making noise.
- Weather: weather conditions could be bad whilst filming outside needs to be constructed.
- Noise: could scare or alert the neighborhood
- Busy areas: could be no space for you to film or walk through shots being filmed.
- Unsafe environments; the safety of cast, crew members and other people around you is vital.
- Council: the council or police would forbid you for filming in a particular public place.
- Emergency Services: if you think there will be a danger or hazard in the place you are filming, inform one of the emergency services or council.

Initial Ideas
Idea one:
Name of Film - The Watcher
- Could be a stalker?
- Camera (in point of view shot) could be outside watching a person put a laptop, some money, a phone (or could maybe be sending a text to someone) and other items into a bag.
- The stalker could be watching someones where abouts or watch them coming out of their house.
- Stalker could be unidentified to match thriller conventions?
- Zoom into faces to see reactions of both the persona and the stalker.
- Conventional title screens
- Usage of voice overs to add extra audio sounds

Idea two:
Name of film - One By One
- In the beginning it could start off with a young girl on Skype messaging an "unknown person".
- They could be having a conversation about meeting up.
- They both sign out and start to get ready
- We could see the "unknown person" gathering their belongings together or weapons.
- We could then see a zoom of the items wrapped up in cloths or a bag.
- The "unknown person" could initially be a pedophile?
- They pedophile/unknown person could never be fully revealed?
- The young girl is shown right the way through
- The audience could see both the young girls and pedophiles perspective.
- We could see a wall of pictures of the young girl in his room.
- Young girl goes to meet the unidentified person but we never see them actually together. Just in the same place at the same time to end on a cliffhanger or enigma.
- Or see them walking off together from a behind shot.
- Could dress them in specific colours to highlight protagonist/antagonist.
- Conventional title screens

Storyboard:

Below are the storyboards which we created in our group planning process. We stuck to this idea throughout the construction and filming of our 2 minute opening. They were useful and helpful as they kept us on track of where we needed to film next.

 Page 2.

Props list:

Tape
We used tape as a prop in our main task as we wanted to include some realism into our film. It made clear to the audience that the antagonist was set out to stop someone from making noise (screaming or calling for help).

Laptop
This prop was vital in our main task as we had to use it in the start of our film. We wanted to make our 2 minute opening modern so we used laptops instead of computers. We also used a modern instant messaging service called "Skype" which we filmed the conversation between the antagonist and protagonist.

Knife
We included a knife into our main task as this is a well known convention of a thriller genre. It also shows the audience that it was the antagonist who has the knife on its person. We do not see the knife being used, we only see it being picked up. The knife stats that the person holing the knife is intending to harm or kill someone; another convention of a thriller genre.

Hoodie/Jacket
This hoodie is included in our film and the antagonist is the person who puts it on. The colours were navy blue as this was a dark colour. We wanted to show the antagonist putting the hoodie on as we wanted to show that the antagonist was not going to be revealed.  We also wanted to modernize the opening film and so we costumed a hoodie which is worn by the young youth of today.

Makeup
This is another main element which we included into our main task film. It is used my the protagonist (the young girl) and we see her putting her makeup on. We wanted to have a shot of this as we felt that the young girl wanted to make herself look more "attractive" for the person she was going to meet. Also the girls of this modern day were makeup and so we wanted to relate our film to this modern day time.

Watch
We decided to make a watch a prop in our film as we we wanted to show that the young girl was anxious when she went to meet the person she has arranged to meet on 'Skype' (The modern instant messaging service). We also wanted to emphasize the fact that the antagonist was taking a while to come but yet, she was still waiting for his turn up. The watch was not seen but it was clear in the clip that she checked her watch.

 Kettle and Tea Cups
The kettle and tea cups were not a main prop in our main task film but we wanted to include them to make the clip and scene more realistic. They were used by the Mum and Mum's friend in the kitchen scene of them having a small conversation before Alisha (the protagonist) walks in. The mum was in the middle of making a cup of tea for herself and her friend.

Mobile Phone
This mobile whole was used in our 2 minute opening of our main task. Again the phone is not revealed but it is clear that the Mum is speaking to her friend on the phone who had been around the day before. She is informing her friend that her Daughter did not come home last night after going to meet her "friend" (as the young girl lied and told her Mum).

Actors

 ALISHA TORRANCE
Alisha plays the innocent young girl called Alisha in our film. She is the protagonist.

 DARREN SMITH
Darren plays the unidentified pedophile called Robert in the film. (Only his name is revealed and this is through the Skype conversation). He is the Antagonist.

 KERRY O'SULLIVAN
Kerry plays the worried Mum in our 2 minute opening film. She is not a main character.

RIANNA BRATHWAITE
Rianna (myself) plays the Mums friend in our 2 minute opening. Again, she is not a main character.

Location and Setting:

This the location where we filmed Alisha (Alisha) is on her laptop messaging Robert on Skype.

This is the location where we filmed Robert (Darren) messaging Alisha on his laptop. It is also thee same location where we filmed him gathering up the tape, knife etc...

This is the location where we filmed Alisha doing her makeup in the mirror.

This is the location where we filmed the Mum and the Mum's friend having a conversation in the kitchen before Alisha comes down the stairs to talk to her mum.

This is the location where we filmed Alisha on her way to meet up with Robert.

This is the location where we saw Alisha leaving the house to meet Robert.

Costume Planning:

- Alisha Torrance (Alisha):
As the character Alisha is an innocent young school girl (protagonist), we have decided to costume her in a white t-shirt. The colour white represents innocence and purity in a person, especially a stereotypical young girl. We have also costumed her in a red cardigan and red trainers. The red is to represent a sense of 'love' and flirtation in the young girl, seeing as she is going to meet a boy.

- Darren Smith (Robert):
As the character of Robert is a paeodophiole (antagonist), we thought that the costume would need to be dark colours like blue and black. This is as dark colours are seen to be dominant and give a bad vibe to the audienece. Usuallyif a character is dressed in dark costuming they are seen to be the "bad guy".

- Kerry O'Sullivan (Mum)
- Rianna Brathwaite (Mum's Friend):
We have costumed the Mum and the Mum's Friend to wear subtle colours such as beige and plum colours. This is as they aren't important characters in the scene. Subtle colours could symbolise protection and 'middle aged'.

Signed Talent Release Form:

This image on the right is a talent release form.

We had to get a talent release form signed and dated by Alisha Torrance to say that she has allowed us to film her and also put it on the internet. This was also very important to get signed and dated as she is under 18 years old. Her mother has also agreed that she has given permission for Alisha Torrance to be filmed by my group and I.

Filming Schedual:

Before filming our film, we constructed a filming schedual to help us get through our film. We did this thoroughly in our preliminary task and it help us a great deal so we decided to make another for our film. We thought this was a really good idea as it help us to know what day we was going to film what and the time allocated and props we needed. It also reminded us what scene we was filming and the time of day/night it was. Darren constructed and also formatted the layout of this filming schedual:

Sheet one:
 Sheet two:

Editing Schedual:

Before we began editing, we thought it would again, be a good idea to make an editing schedual just as we did for the filming schedual. we did this so that we wouldn't fall in our editing of the film we had previously filmed. We also decided to keep a close track on who was helping out with the editing of our film seeing as it was a group task. We noted down the names of who was going to edit and and what time/for however long. Darren also constructed and designed the layout of this editing schedual:

Screen Shots Editing:

Here is just some evidence of us editing our main task/2 minute opening for a thriller film. We have used editing techniques such as typography/titles, working out match on actions, fades, dissolves, fast pace and music.

One:
Here we was inserting the first typography for our titles.
Two:
Here we were adding the actors names before they appeared.
Three:
Here we were adding the producer, director, writer, editor, music etc...
Four:
Here we were constructing a match on action shot in our film.
